This&#160; hack that will supply some relief for x86 users (<em><font color=\"#ff0000\"><strong>but not RT users since WLPG can\u2019t be installed on ARM based systems, etc.<\/strong><\/font><\/em>).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>The frustrating experience \u201cas is\u201d on Windows 8.1 results in \u201cThis network location can\u2019t be included because it is not indexed\u201d, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos1\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos1\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos1.png\" width=\"550\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are the steps you need to take to enable Linux NAS based images to appear in the 8.1 Photos App.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>First, install <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-live\/photo-gallery#photogallery=overview\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Live Photo Gallery<\/a> and open it.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Second, using WLPG right click Pictures under All photos and videos and then select <strong>Manage Pictures Library<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos2\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos2\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos2.png\" width=\"550\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Third, click <strong>Add<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos3\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos3\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos3.png\" width=\"532\" height=\"508\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, browse to the folder on your NAS box you want to include and then select <strong>Include folder<\/strong>. In the example below, lighthouse jpgs is the folder that has been selected.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos4\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos4\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos4.png\" width=\"550\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Fifth, no errors, no warnings, no nastigrams. The Linux based NAS folder can be added successfully. Click OK to close the window.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos5\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos5\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos5.png\" width=\"532\" height=\"508\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Sixth, confirm that your images display inside the Windows Live Photo Gallery browser.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"photos6\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 10px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"photos6\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalmediaphile.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/photos6.png\" width=\"550\" height=\"588\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Finally! Open the Windows 8.1 Photos App and view your Linux NAS based photos.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Sadly, there will be no folder hierarchy and only the individual images are displayed on the main screen.
